Why Palawan?
Palawan is a 270-mile island province on the western edge of the Philippines, facing the open Pacific. It is consistently ranked among the least industrialized coastlines in Southeast Asia — no heavy shipping lanes, no factory runoff, no river-mouth agricultural discharge near our harvest zones. For a product that absorbs its environment the way seaweed does, the water it grows in is the single biggest quality factor.
Our harvest areas sit more than five hours by boat from the nearest town. That remoteness is inconvenient for logistics and excellent for purity: every batch we test comes back clean on all nine heavy-metal and microbial parameters. See our lab results.
The Species: Eucheuma Spinosum (Gold Sea Moss)
We harvest Eucheuma spinosum, the gold sea moss prized by gel makers for its strong carrageenan structure. One pound of our dried sea moss yields roughly 12 pounds of gel — the natural cell structure survives our low-heat sun-drying, so the moss re-expands about 5× during soaking. How It's Harvested and Processed
- Hand-harvesting. Local harvesters cut mature fronds by hand at low tide, leaving the holdfast intact so the plant regrows. No dredging, no machinery.
- Triple freshwater wash. The moss is rinsed three times in freshwater to remove sand, salt crust, and debris — this is why buyers tell us our moss needs minimal prep.
- Natural sun-drying. Drying happens on raised racks in open air over several days. No ovens, no bleach, no salt packing, no preservatives — the gold color is the natural color of the species.
- Batch lab testing. Every production batch is third-party tested for lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, salmonella, E. coli, yeast, and mold before it ships to North America.
- Compressed packing. The dried moss is compressed into food-grade PP bags (25×18×6 inches per 20lb) and shipped to our warehouses in Seattle, Vancouver, and Toronto.
Wildcrafted, Not Pool-Grown
Our sea moss grows on natural reef in open ocean — it is not cultivated in brine pools or tanks. Pool-grown moss is cheaper to produce but typically thicker, saltier, and lower in mineral diversity because it grows in a controlled, nutrient-limited environment.
